To the ends of the Earth
Lesson 1 LQ: Can you learn about the promise of the Spirit and Ascension? In this lesson, we will share the story of The Promise of the Spirit and Ascension (Acts 1:1-11). We will look at what the word ‘ascended into heaven’ means and make Bubble prayers. Lesson 2 LQ: Can you celebrate that the Church celebrates the Ascension and Pentecost on special days of celebration (holydays of obligation)? In this lesson, we will look at the word holiday comes from holyday. Some days of the year are ‘holy days’, when we celebrate these special times in the Church’s year. The Feast of the Ascension is one of these. We are reminded to put God first on these days. The children will help to set up our prayer focus, make the sign of the cross., read the scripture below and allow time for silent prayer. The children will be encouraged to think about wondering questions about the scripture. We will pray the Glory Be prayer together and sing a hymn about the Holy Spirit. We will close by making the sign of the cross. |

Mass and Capacity
We will be continuing on with this unit. We will be looking at capacity. Is the glass empty or full? Can we compare the glasses and say which has more or less? If a saucepan holds 10 cups of milk and 4 cups are poured out, how much is left in the pan? In this unit, children should also understand the difference between volume and capacity. The capacity of a container is the maximum amount of liquid that it can hold, whereas the volume of liquid in a container is the amount of liquid the container is actually holding. This can be less than the capacity. |
Science |
Plants
We will continue to look at trees. We will be collecting leaves and identifying which tree each leaf belongs to. We will also identify some characteristics of the leaf and use these to sort into different groups. |

Homework |
New spellings to learn will go home on Tuesday 13th May.
Reading Record books will go home on a Tuesday. Please write all your child’s reading in here. If it is a book they have chosen to read for pleasure, record the name of the book followed by (RP). RP = reading for pleasure. Your children will be sitting their phonics screening test in June. Please can you ensure you are working with your child to help complete the gaps in their phonics knowledge. In particular the children are still struggling to spot split diagraphs a-e, (gave), i-e (hive), o-e (love/ cove) u-e ( tune) e-e (these). Keep using your phonics cards to practice your letters and sounds. Also help them spot those split diagraphs when they are reading and keep pointing them out when you see them. This really helps bed in your children’s learning and improves their reading massively. The more we practice the easier it is for them to learn them. Little and often. Spelling Quiz will be on Monday 12th May. Please can your child’s Orange Spelling Book be in their child’s plastic reading folder so they can complete their Spelling quiz at the back of this book.
