RE

Dialogue and Encounter

Children Know that Christian means follower of Jesus Christ.

Recognise simple connections between Jesus’ life and message and how Christians live today.

English

We will finish reading our class text, ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson and use different sentence openers to summarise the plot.

Handwriting

We will practise writing the months of the year.

Phonics

We will practise spelling the months of the year in class. No spellings homework will come home.

Maths

Numbers to 100

In this unit, children will develop their understanding of numbers to 100. They will begin by counting beyond 50 and noticing the counting patterns. They will use a 100 square and other pictorial representations. They will count efficiently by counting the 10s first and then the 1s. They will position numbers on a number line and use these to help them compare two 2-digit numbers. Children will also find one more and one less than numbers to 100. An understanding of 2-digit numbers will support children’s understanding of, and ability to work with, numbers and the number system.

Science

Seasonal Change

We will be looking at more changes between spring and summer.

Art

Wheels and Axles

We will be evaluating our cars.  We will identify what worked and anything we would change.

Computing

Programming Animations

Children will choose appropriate backgrounds and sprites for a ‘Space race’ project. They will decide how each sprite will move, and create an algorithm based on the blocks available in ScratchJr that reflects this.

History

Comparing Tocuaro in Mexico to Guildford

We will be using our learning to write a postcard to a child in Tocuaro.

French

To revise the shapes and colours in French

Music

After listening to a piece of music called ‘Feuding Banjos’ to inspire our understanding of a musical ‘conversation’ we will begin to explore how to create our own.

PE

Athletics

Children will start running at varying speeds intentionally and running over obstacles. They will start to develop Jumping, hopping and leaping in

combination and with changing distance. They will start to throw for distance with some accuracy.

Target games

Intro to key throwing skills, overarm and underarm technique is taught with the aim of throwing accurately at a target or zone. Children will also select the correct throw for different situations and change their foot stance independently.
