Communication and language

Week 23: Focus - Composition

This week, the children will consolidate their understanding of the composition of 5. They will also deepen their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts through games and practical experiences, such as investigating different ways to represent 5 monkeys jumping on a bed.

Although we have worked on the composition of 5 in previous weeks, a key focus this time will be on visualising and using spatial language to describe the groups within 5. The children will also have opportunities to explore and make links between different, increasingly abstract, representations of the numbers within 5. Using and making links between these different representations (fingers, die frames and 10-frames) will draw attention to the composition of 5 and encourage the children to develop a deep and holistic understanding.

Mathematics

We will be taking stock of our garden beds and thinking about what else we might like to grow in them.

Understanding the World

We will be experimenting with colours and colour mixing.

Expressive arts and design

We will learn another new song which will allow us to explore the difference between our speaking and singing voices.

Story Sacks

Please continue to enjoy these wonderful literacy resource. The sacks will come home on a Monday and will need to be returned on the Friday of that week. It is really important that they are returned on time so that there are enough sacks to send out again to each child on the following Monday.  These sacks have taken a huge amount of time and care to put together, and we are so grateful to all the families and staff members who have helped to make this project possible.  Please, please can we ask that you take care of these story sacks, so that they can be enjoyed for many years to come! A photograph is included inside each bag; please use this to ensure that all of the contents are back in the bag before returning it to school.

Any lost or damaged contents will need to be replaced or paid for.

We are continuing share the Prayer and Liturgy bag once again. When it is your turn for you and your family to use the class prayer and liturgy bag. We invite you to write a prayer, reflection, drawing or a photo to show how you, as a family, have used the prayer resources tonight.

We conduct liturgy in school using the four-part structure of: Gather, Listen, Respond and Go Forth. In the information guide you will find some ideas of how you could use the prayer and liturgy bag at home but these are only suggestions and can be used how you wish.

If you received this om a Monday, please return it on Thursday. If you received it on Thursday then please return it on Monday.
