S=P+A+C+E for Me – Green Group This week Green Group are invited to bring in a small item that they would like to talk about linked to our learning below. Please can you support your child to be ready to talk about their object in front of the class. Sunhats and Suncream As we head into summer, can we please remind you to make sure that your child has their school sunhat with them each day and to check that it is named. As we are not able to apply sun protection, please ensure that your child has had sun cream liberally applied when they come to school in the morning, in order to afford protection for the day. Gluesticks We are running low on gluesticks so if anyone is able to provide one for the class we would be most grateful. |

Our focus will be on longer words and thinking about where to ‘chunk’ them for reading (e.g. chim/pan/zee) and compound words (words composed of one or more word put together such as sand/pit and hand/stand). The new Tricky Words for this week are: there, when, what and one. We will also be reviewing Phase 3 long vowel sounds (ai ee igh oa oo oo ar or ur ow oi ear air er) and Phase 2 digraphs (ck sh th ch ng nk) for those children who are not yet secure in their knowledge of these. |

Term 3 Week 24: Focus – Composition
This week, the children will continue to develop their understanding of the composition of numbers to 10 using different representations. They will deepen their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts through games and practical experiences, such as investigating different ways to represent 10 sausages from the counting rhyme, ‘10 Fat Sausages’. The children will also use their fingers, 10-frames and Hungarian number patterns to begin to explore ‘5 and a bit’ numbers to 10. Composing and de-composing numbers involves the children investigating part–part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 7 can be made of 5 and 2 more. Using these structures, and making links between them, will provide practical and visual experiences to further consolidate understanding of the composition of numbers between 6 and 10. |
Understanding the World |
We will be finding out about some of the countries taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest. |
Expressive arts and design |
We will be making up songs and performing them to our friends. |
Music |
Find the pulse. Listen and respond to music in different styles. Rediscover high and low sounds. Compose ‘magic spell’ with high and low sounds.
Can you find the pulse? What do you think of this music? Is this a high or low pitch? Can you make a high sound? Can you make a low sound? Can you put sounds together to create a ‘magic spell’? |
Physical Development (in PE) |
Dance
Topic ‘everyday life’. Children explore and use space safely. They explore shapes, travelling movements and balances. Choose their own actions in response to stimulus and are shown how to copy, repeat and remember actions whilst counting in time with the music. They perform to others and provide simple feedback. Games unit 1 Children will work individually and with others. Engage in cooperative physical activities. Participate in team games and understand how to use equipment safely. Games unit 2 Children will learn to develop simple throwing skills, following instructions and keeping score. They will continue to develop skills to move safely, play against a partner and begin to explore striking and fielding. |
Home learning |
Phonics
Please keep going over the digraphs (2-letter sounds) and trigraphs (3-letter sounds) that we have taught so far, along with all of the Tricky Words. Please see the link below for support. School Jam Please continue to access this wonderful number resource with your child each week. Collins eBooks Please do let us know if you have any questions about how this works. Letter Formation Sheet The handwriting sheet coming home this week is for the grapheme a. Your child will need to follow the grey shape of the letter with their finger and then, using a sharp pencil, trace the letters below. Your child will then need to write independently the letter on the next two lines, starting on the dot each time. Please supervise your child as they complete this sheet. Please ensure your child writes their own name on the back of the sheet please. Please return this sheet on Monday in their large plastic wallet. It is important that your child hold’s their sharp writing pencil correctly and are sitting comfortably at a table. Please see tips and advice below. As presentation is a key focus at St Thomas of Canterbury, we would appreciate your support in ensuring that your child understands how to value this learning sheet. |
