Learning Link: Awesome Anglo-SaxonsWe will be learning what happened after the Roman left Britain, how first the Anglo-Saxons, and then the Vikings, came and settled in Britain. This will include some local History as Guildford was an Anglo-Saxon settlement. This will be further studied during our residential to Hooke Court and through the books we read in English. |

Year Group reminders |
Week Commencing: 26th January 2026 Week B Please make sure your child has their school reading book and homework diary every day in school. Monday: PE for both classes Tuesday: PE for both classes. Parent meeting about residential trip at Hooke Court and Times Tables - 7pm in school Wednesday: Thursday: BREAK THE RULES DAY - CRAZY HAIR FOR YEAR 4 ONLY - this is because of 4G’s Class Worship on Friday and is the only rule that can be broken today. Friday: 4G Class Worship - parents and carers welcome to join our worship at 9am. Open Afternoon in classrooms after school. ‘Break the rules day’ to raise money for our Busenya partnership school. School council mentors and teachers have shared the six ‘special rules’ which can be broken on this day only. There will be more details in this week’s newsletter and donations of £1 will be made available to pay on Scopay. Children can break any of the ‘special rules or a combination of all of them if they would like to. Looking further ahead:
Reminders: As the weather is colder, please can you send children into school with gloves and hats to wear during break, lunch and PE Lessons please. Base layers for sports are appropriate on PE days and ideally would be Navy blue in colour. School tracksuit trousers are to be worn in the winter to replace PE shorts. PE for Year 4 will be every Tuesday and on a Monday in WEEK B. Please ensure your child has a named glue stick. A Pritt Stick costs £1 and can be bought from your child’s class teacher or from the stationery shop each morning by the front office. We will be spot checking children’s uniforms, please make sure they are named as well as water bottles and snack boxes. |
Homework |
Please make sure your child has their school reading book and homework diary every day in school. Please continue to support your child’s handwriting by reinforcing this poem at home. Reading - please continue to read for up to 20 minutes each day and record in the reading record. There are questions in your child’s homework diary to support their comprehension further. Please record the questions you have asked in your child’s reading record, e.g 4a, 6c, 8b. CGP Homework books: Please complete Maths and English Spring Workout 4 for Monday 2nd February. Spellings: These will be set on a Friday and due in on the following Friday. |

MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION Pupils build fluency in multiplying and dividing by 10 and apply this understanding to solve word problems. Focus is on using place-value knowledge accurately and interpreting problem language correctly. Gaps are addressed by reinforcing place-value concepts, clarifying key vocabulary in word problems, and revisiting common misconceptions through small-step practice. |
Science |
SOUND Pupils learn what a switch is and how it controls the flow of electricity in a circuit. Focus is on understanding that a switch opens and closes a circuit to stop or allow electricity to flow. Gaps are addressed by reinforcing key vocabulary, clarifying the idea of a complete and incomplete circuit, and revisiting common misconceptions through simple examples. |

EMOTIONS We will be looking at different art techniques and exploring how they can be used to portray a variety of emotions. |
Computing |
AUDIO PRODUCTION We will learn how to layer our sound recordings and import sound effects. |
History |
ANGLO SAXONS Pupils learn where Anglo-Saxons settled and what their settlements were like. Focus is on understanding why they chose certain locations and identifying key features of Anglo-Saxon settlements. Gaps are addressed by reinforcing key vocabulary, revisiting map-based understanding, and clarifying misconceptions about settlement life. |

We will add high and low pitches to our composed rhythms, and then perform them to each other in learning partners. |
PE |
Gymnastics Safely perform balances individually and with a partner. Plan and perform sequences with a partner that include a change of level and shape. Understand how body tension can improve the control and quality of their movements. Watch, describe and suggest possible improvements to a performance. Fitness Develop speed, strength, stamina, co-ordination through dedicated exercises and personal challenges. Record results and consider exercises to improve results. Consider how exercise affects health and wellbeing. Tennis Develop the use of backhand and consider when to use it. Demonstrate increased technique with a continuous rally.
