Learning Link: Once upon a TombAs your children enter the Spring term, they will step back in time as we delve into the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians. The children will have a wonderful opportunity to become fully immersed in our topic this term. The children will be finding out about daily life in Ancient Egypt, mummification; tombs and so much more! |

Year Group reminders |
Week Commencing: 26th January 2026 Week B Monday: Spellings - old ones tested and new ones given out. Tuesday: Maths and English homework marked and handed out. Wednesday: Year 3 PE - please come in PE kit. Thursday: PE for 3D - please come to school wearing school uniform and bring trainers in a named bag. Mass at St. Pius 11am. On Thursday, children should come into school in their uniform, but will have the opportunity to have untucked shirts and no ties in the afternoon upon returning from Mass. Friday: S=P+A+C+E Day – Ancient Egyptians - see email. Open Afternoon. ‘Break the rules day’ to raise money for our Busenya partnership school. School council mentors and teachers have shared the six ‘special rules’ which can be broken on this day only. There will be more details in this week’s newsletter and donations of £1 will be made available to pay on Scopay. Children can break any of the ‘special rules or a combination of all of them if they would like to. Cold weather: Please can you send children into school with gloves and hats to wear during break, lunch and PE Lessons. Base layers for sports are appropriate on PE days and ideally would be Navy blue in colour. School tracksuit trousers are to be worn in the winter to replace PE shorts. Looking further ahead:
Reminders: Please ensure your child has a named glue stick. We will be spot checking children’s uniforms, please make sure they are named as well as water bottles and snack boxes. |
Homework |
Maths and English homework will be set on a Tuesday and due on the following Tuesday. Please can children complete Spring Term Workout 5 in their CGP Maths and English books - due on Tuesday 3rd February. TTRockstars please encourage your children to practise their times tables. There is a new battle this week between classes! Battle it out Year 3 but we could also win the trophy against the whole school! Spellings set on Monday 26th January and due on the following Tuesday 3rd February due to school trip. |

Multiplication and Division Children will be applying their multiplication and division knowledge to a variety of word problems. |

Animals including humans Children will be understanding a balanced diet and designing meals that have a variety of different food types. |

Ancient Egyptians Symbolism Children will be designing an Ancient Egyptian mask. |

Online Safety Children will be learning about the key features of the ‘Scratch’ programme. |
History |
Ancient Egypt Children will describe why gods and goddesses were important to ancient Egyptians and use sources to do this. |
French |

Music |
We will be introduced to call-and-response songs; some where the response is a repeat of the call, and some where the response is related to the specifics of the call. |
PE |
Gymnastics Explore making their body tense, relaxed, stretched and curled. Can they explore different ways of stretching, balancing, rolling, and travelling. Remember, repeat and link combinations of gymnastic actions, body shapes and balances with control and precisions. Create a sequence with a partner. OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities and team building) Children will continue to develop trust, teamwork and effective communication whilst problem-solving. Listening to others and following instructions. Identify and draw simple objects, follow a simple map, draw routes and navigate around a grid. Tennis Develop racket control and use of forehand play. Use Forehand to control the ball and take part in a rally. Discover basic rules and scoring. Work with others to self-manage a game. |
