Learning Link: Trains, Planes and AutomobilesThis term our learning centres on looking at changes in transportation over the past 100 years. Our visit to Brooklands Museum will support this, focusing on how planes and buses have changed over time. |

Year Group Reminders |
Week Commencing: Monday 8th June Week B Monday: The children will be completing the Phonics Screening Check over the course of this week. Orange spelling books due in. No more story sacks will come home now this year - Please continue to read books from home or the library and record this in your child’s reading record book. Tuesday: PE for 1T. Spelling books come home with new words. Wednesday: PE for both classes. Thursday: KS1 Sports Day at school 1.30-3pm – children need to wear PE kits to school. Please see the email for further details. Friday: STOC Talent Show in the afternoon. Little Wandle books come home along with a new ‘Home Learning’ sheet so you can reinforce phonics learning at home. Children in yellow group (both classes) are invited to bring in an object linked to our learning to share with the class on Friday during Space for Me. Looking further ahead:
Reminders: Please can you remember to take children’s earrings out on PE days or put tape on your child’s ears in the morning. All children should be sent in with a raincoat (with a hood) as we go out in all weathers. Please make sure your child has a named water bottle and an individual snack (fruit or veg) every day. Please make sure all items of clothing are named. |
Homework |
Reading: Little Wandle reading books will be sent home on Fridays - please return on Mondays. Phonics: The ‘Home Learning’ sheets, that come home at the end of each week, show you the sounds and words the children have been learning throughout the week. Please continue to use the flashcards from this year at home to practise with our child. Spelling: Spelling homework comes home on Tuesdays and is due back the following Monday. Guidance is stuck into the front of the children’s orange spelling books. Please practise the spellings using the grid provided and write at least one sentence using one or more of the words. |

RE |
To the ends of the Earth We will learn about Jesus’ mission and how Christians today are encouraged to live out His mission. We will read the story Kind by Axel Scheffler and create our own kindness anthology as a class. |
English |
We will continue to read our class text, ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson. We will identify and understand when to use exclamation sentences and practise writing simple exclamations using an ! at the end. Handwriting We will be practising our spelling words with a focus on accurate letter formation and sizing. |
Phonics |
In phonics lessons this week, we will be learning new phase 5 graphemes. Spelling homework is based on these sounds and words. |
Maths |
Position and Direction This unit gives a practical application to children’s learning from the previous unit on fractions. They will learn to describe rotations as quarter, half, three-quarter and whole turns, and will combine turns with lateral movement to give and follow route instructions. Children will also learn to describe the position of an object in relation to other objects, using the words ‘above’, ‘below’, ‘left’, ‘right’ and ‘between’. Please practice using directional language with your child at home to support this learning. |
Science |
Plants We will be going outside to look at wild flowers. We will learn that a wild flower grows where the seed falls and that it does not need to be planted. |
Art |
Wheels and Axels This term we will be designing and making our own toy car out of recycled materials. This week we will be investigating how wheels and axels work by looking at toy cars. |
Computing |
Programming Animations We will use ScratchJr and discover that we can move characters on-screen using commands and compare ScratchJr to the Bee-bots used previously this year. |
History |
Comparing Tocuaro in Mexico to Guildford We will be looking at Tocuaro in Mexico and learning all about the village and what they are famous for. |
French |
To recognise and say the months of the year in French |
Music |
We will use stick notation to compose and perform a 4 beat rhythm phrase. |
PE |
Athletics Children will start running at varying speeds intentionally and running over obstacles. They will start to develop Jumping, hopping and leaping in combination and with changing distance. They will start to throw for distance with some accuracy. Target games Intro to key throwing skills, overarm and underarm technique is taught with the aim of throwing accurately at a target or zone. Children will also select the correct throw for different situations and change their foot stance independently. Striking and Fielding To develop underarm and overarm throwing. Children will learn how to collect the ball and how to get a batter out as well as beginning to keep score. |
Learning for Life |
Learning About Baby We will be learning how to take care of babies to foster a sense of responsibility and empathy. This teaches them to understand the importance of nurturing and caring for others. |
