Learning Link: A Trip Down Memory laneWe will be looking at our local area and what makes it unique. We will be asking the questions, what makes our community function and successful. We will look at the passage of time and how our community has changed over the last 59 years. If you have any memories of this time (the further back the better) or photographs we would love to hear from you. |

Year Group Reminders |
Week Commencing: Monday 26th January Week B Monday: Little Wandle books and Spelling homework due back in. Story sacks come home. Tuesday: PE for 1T. Spelling books come home with new words. Wednesday: PE for both classes. Thursday: Friday: ‘Break the rules day’ to raise money for our Busenya partnership school. School council mentors and teachers have shared the six ‘special rules’ which can be broken on this day only. There will be more details in this week’s newsletter and donations of £1 will be made available to pay on Scopay. Children can break any of the ‘special rules or a combination of all of them if they would like to. Open afternoon. Story sacks due back in school. Little Wandle books come home today along with the ‘Home Learning’ sheet and new flashcards so you can reinforce phonics learning at home. Children in red group (both classes) are invited to bring in an object linked to our learning to share with the class on Friday during Space for Me. Cold weather: Please can you send children into school with gloves and hats to wear during break, lunch and PE Lessons please. Base layers for sports are appropriate on PE days and ideally would be navy blue in colour. School tracksuit trousers are to be worn in the winter to replace PE shorts. Looking further ahead:
Reminders: All children should be sent in with a raincoat (with a hood) as we go out in all weathers. Please make sure your child has a named water bottle and an individual snack (fruit or veg) everyday. Please make sure all items of clothing are named. |
Homework |
Reading: Story sacks will be sent home on Mondays - please return on Fridays. Little Wandle reading books will be sent home on Fridays - please return on Mondays. Phonics: The ‘Home Learning’ sheets, that come home at the end of each week, show you the sounds and words the children have been learning throughout the week. When we teach new graphemes we will send home the relevant flashcards (for you to keep) so you can practise with your child. Spelling: Spelling homework comes home on Tuesdays and is due back the following Monday. Guidance is stuck into the front of the children’s orange spelling books. Please practise the spellings using the grid provided and write at least one sentence using one or more of the words. |

Galilee to Jerusalem The children will be learning about the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple and will begin to reflect upon Jesus’ early life and how they can draw comparisons to their own life. |
English |
Sentence construction We will continue to read our class text, ‘The Koala Who Could’ by Rachel Bright. The children will learn what the subject of a sentence is. The key learning is that all sentences contain a subject, the subject is the person or thing doing the action (verb) and that a subject is usually a noun. Handwriting We will practise forming letters from the ‘zig-zag’ letter family this week: z and k. |
Phonics |
In phonics lessons this week, we will be learning some new sounds. Spelling homework is based on these sounds and words. |
Maths |
Numbers to 20 The children will be consolidating their knowledge of counting forwards and backwards to 20. They will learn to count on from a given number and identify one more and one less than. |
Science |
Animals including humans Children will begin to identify the different animal groups and be able to explain what is different between each one, including their habitats and diets. |
DT |
Painting the seasons We will be learning about primary colours and using these to mix secondary colours. Our focus this week will be on autumn oranges. |
Computing |
Digital Painting Children will learn to use a range of shape tools, allowing them to create a painting in the style of an artist. |
Geography |
Understanding changes within living memory We will be looking at our school and how it has changed over time. We will be going on an artifact hunt around the school to find evidence of the past and see first hand some of the changes. |
French |
To recognise and say the name of 4 vegetables in French |
Music |
Using the tuned percussion instruments we explored last week, we will work in small groups to compose music with high or low sounds to represent an animal. |
PE |
Net and wall Use the ready position effectively. Hold and use a racket to hit a ball. Hitting over a net. Introduction of an opponent and score keeping. Dance Pupils will copy and repeat actions linking them together to make short dance phrases. Pupils will work individually and with a partner to create ideas in relation to the theme. Pupils will perform and also to provide feedback, beginning to use dance terminology to do so. Invasion games Move with a ball towards goals with increasing control. Understand their role as an attacker and as a defender. Move into space to help support a team. |
Learning for Life |
Physical Exercise We will be discovering how important it is to keep our bodies moving. We need to move to keep our muscles, heart and mind healthy. We will be thinking about one thing we could change to make us healthier. |
