The Liturgical Year
The Liturgical Year
As a school our worship life follows the liturgical year very closely. Our whole school worships on a Monday reflect on the weekend Gospel and our Prayer tables follow the liturgical seasons with the right colour cloths.

Advent
As the Liturgical year starts with Advent so every class creates their own Advent wreath and reflects on its significance and we follow daily reflections and prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ into our lives. Every child in the school has the opportunity to take home a Travelling Crib with a candle and reflectiosn for the whole family to use.
As we come to the end of the Autumn term each year group shares an Advent service with parents with Year 6 leading a poignant and moving service at St Pius X. Parents are asked to donate to a charity chosen by the children that reflects the content of their service. In recent years this has included charities working with refugees as the children make the link with the Holy Family’s escape from Herod. |
Christmas
Whilst we are all away from school for Christmas itself we meet many friends at the various Parish Masses and return to school (almost always) to celebrate Epiphany with Mass in school.
|
Lent
On Ash Wednesday we welcome our Parish Priests into school for the distribution of Ashes and again through Lent for the sacrament of Reconciliation.
Each day throughout Lent we share Lenten reflections in our classes and think about we can become closer to Christ, fighting temptation and doing something positively loving and kind for others. We always raise money for charity and in particular support the Diocesan fundraising for Missio. Every class will walk the Stations of the Cross either at St PiusX or in school, taking time to reflect and pray.

Easter
Holy Week can sometimes start whilst we are still in school but we all learn about this most important time in the Church’s year and experience the Passsion of Christ each year in a play reverently presented by Year 5.

Ordinary Time
Throughout Ordinary time, we follow the Sunday lectionary in our worship and celebrate key Holy Days such as St Peter and St Paul.
We also continue to celebrate school masses, including one for all the children in the school who have made their First Holy Communion. Staff members attend all of the First Holy Communion masses around the Parish.
