Living the Gospel
Living the Gospel
Love one another as I have loved you
John 15:12
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:37-40
Our one school rule is that we must always treat others as we would like to be treated – a simple version of Christ’s instruction to love others, our Golden Threads help us to understand the Gospel values. If we were hungry we would want to be fed, if we were sad we would want to be comforted. This commandment to love inspires us in all we do.
Our partnership with Busenya RC Primary School in Uganda is a living and vibrant one and is one way that, as a whole school community, we put the Gospel into action.
Our work throughout the year and especially during Advent and Lent, raising alms for those in need through a variety of charitable causes is another. The charities we have supported in the last school year include: CAFOD, The Royal British Legion, NSPCC, Mission Together and Cancer Research.
Our eco-warriors also lead the way across the school in ensuring that we are doing all we can to help protect God’s creation.
One way in which we can focus our work in the areas of Catholic Social Teaching is through our involvement with the Oscar Romero Award Trust. We are very proud of our Participator status and are working towards Developer Level.
We learn from the words of Oscar Romero…
“Aspire not to have more but to be more”
“Each one of you has to be God’s microphone. Each one of you has to be a messenger, a prophet. The church will always exist as long as there is someone who has been baptised…Where is your baptism? You are baptised in your professions, in the fields of workers, in the market. Wherever there is someone who has been baptised, that is where the church is. There is a prophet there. Let us not hide the talent that God gave us on the day of our baptism and let us truly live the beauty and responsibility of being a prophetic people.”
“There are not two categories of people. There are not some who were born to have everything and leave others with nothing and a majority that has nothing and can’t enjoy the happiness that God has created for all. God wants a Christian society, one in which we share the good things that God has given for all of us.”
“May each of you be concerned to develop the great capacity for love that results in respect for one’s own dignity. And may there flow from proper self-dignity and self love, a respect and love for others. In this capacity for love, we are not our own, for we have received this love from God.”
